Net Empowering Parents: Internet Changes Education

Internet service providers are giving out free computers, and in some districts, a WebTV is in the budget for every household. Why? Because the Internet is changing the way that people will communicate forever.

Most schools today are in the Dark Ages, providing information to parents about their child's progress a few times a year. How long do you think it will be before parents, with Internet access, will want to know why they can't view their child's information (schedule, attendance, grades, etc.) on a day-to-day basis using the web?

Is your school ready to provide parents with the day-to-day information they will demand in the new millennium? Getting parents involved in their child's day-to-day activities will improve their education.

What is the Electronic School?

The Electronic School is a Cimple 2000 Secure Internet Product (SIP) that allows parents to view their child's information from home or from work using the Internet.
It can also act as a communication portal for parents, students, teachers, counselors, and administrators using email.

How does it work?

The Cimple 2000 Electronic School is installed on the district's web server*. It is that easy. A button then appears on the district's home page. When a parent or student connects from home, work, or school using a web browser, they are authenticated with a Digital Certificate, Smart Card, or a UserID and Password (depending on the security option installed). Once authenticated, parents and students are restricted to viewing their own information only. The Electronic School is fully compatible with the leading web browsers (IE, Netscape, and WebTV), providing users with a variety of options to access their information.

Can any district use the Electronic School?

Certainly! The district does not have to use Cimple's Student Information System. The Electronic School has a Data Conversion Product (DCP) that can be customized to work with the district's current system.

What if the district does not have a web server?

Not a problem! Cimple can help your district set up its own web server or assist your school in finding a suitable Internet service provider with web hosting capabilities*. Either way, Cimple will help deliver your students' information to their parents through the web.

Imagine the possibilities using the Electronic School...

Student Schedule: Parents could see if a requested schedule change has been made by the Guidance Counselor, find the name of a child's math teacher, or see when their child has a free period. Parents could confirm the courses that their child selected for the next school year, find out if their child's course selection was changed by the Guidance Counselor, or know whether or not there is a possible conflict with their child's schedule next year. Click here to see a student's schedule on the web.

Student Attendance: Parents could see how many days their child has been absent from school, find out if their child arrived to school on time today, or know if the attendance office corrected a reported error. Click here to see a student's attendance record on the web.

Student Period Absences: Parents could see how many times their child has been absent from English class, find out if their child cut their World History class, or know if their child is arriving to their Physical Education class on time. Click here to see a student's period absences on the web.

Student Grades: Parents could see their child's grades for each marking period, find out if an interim notice was sent out and when, or know if the teacher corrected a reported grade error. Click here to see a student's grades on the web.

Student Discipline: Parents could see how many times their child was referred to the Principal's office for not behaving properly, find out if their child did attend detention after school, or know why their child is being suspended from school. Click here to see a student's discipline record on the web.

Teacher Gradebook Calculator: With the use of Cimple's Teacher Gradebook Calculator, parents could see their child's day-to-day progress on their homework assignments, quizzes, labs, and exams.
